Westerville Police draw guns while apprehending canoe thieves

Westerville police drew guns on two young men who admitted stealing a canoe while they were intoxicated.

Police received a call at 7 a.m. March 14 that two men were seen running with a canoe near North State Street and Executive Drive.

The suspects, a 21-year-old Westerville man and a 21-year-old North Olmsted Falls man, admitted to stealing the canoe from a residence in the first block of Old County Line Road, police reports said.

The suspects were charged with theft and police scheduled their trial to be held later that same day in Westerville Mayor’s Court. A police report stated the men planned to plead guilty. Police returned the canoe to its owner.
